Thavala Adai

Ingredients to make Thavala Adai

  • Raw rice 3 cups
  • chana dal 1/2 cup
  • urad dal 1/2 cup
  • thur dal 1/2 cup
  • sour curd 500 ml
  • Red chillies 5
  • pepper corns and cumin seeds coarsely crushed 2 tea spoons
  • asafoetida 1/2 spoon
  • Finely chopped coconut 3 table spoons
  • salt to taste
  • coconut oil, Ghee and Sesame oil 1/4 cup each

How to make Thavala Adai

  1. In a blender add rice, dals, chillies and powder to the texture of semolina.
  2. Mix this and rest of the things to form the batter, now heat a pan with some oil.
  3. Pour a ladle of the mixture and spread to make this even. Cook on one side, then flip to the other and add some more oil. Cook on all sides and serve hot with some chutney.

My Tip:

Adding a teaspoon of chopped ginger or dry ginger powder enhances digestion.
