ABOUT Sajjige Rotti RECIPE

Sajjige Rotti is a specialty of Karnataka. It’s commonly prepared for breakfast accompanied either with chutneys or a spicy curry. It’s made of semolina/rava. It’s also commonly called Bombay Rava Roti or Chirotti Rava Roti. Ot can be made plain or with additions of spices and condiments. It’s a nutritious recipe suitable for all, especially healthy for those suffering from Diabetis

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 150 gms semolina/rava
  2. 100 gms all purpose flour
  3. 2 Tb oil
  4. 2 Cups Water
  5. 1 Tb salt
  6. 1 ts ghee for cooking

Instructions

  1. Bring to boil water, 1 Tb oil and salt
  2. When the water comes to a boil, reduce heat and add the semolina bit by bit stirring constantly to avoid creating lumps.
  3. When evenly mixed and the water is completely absorbed leaving the semolina soft, turn off heat and place the semolina on a plate to cool of slightly
  4. While still warm, add a Tb oil and all purpose flour
  5. Knead into a soft dough
  6. Make Golf ball sized portions of the dough and start kneading them thin on a greased surface by dusting some flour
  7. Toast each roti one by one on a skillet using a ts ghee
  8. Take off heat once brown spots appear on both sides. Remember to cook on medium-Low heat
  9. Store airtight till consumption
  10. Serve warm with chutneys/curries, etc by applying a ts ghee over the rotis
