This is a North Indian Cuisine especially Uttar Pradesh Cuisine. Since Moong Dal is rich in Protein so this will serve the purpose for the most important meal of the day that is breakfast.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 1 Cup Yellow Moong Dal Dhuli
  2. 3/4 Cup Water + Water to soak and wash
  3. 2 tbsp Clarified Butter
  4. 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  5. A pinch of Asafoetida
  6. 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  7. 1/4 tsp Red Chili Powder
  8. Salt to taste
  9. 2 Green Chilies chopped
  10. 2 tbsp fresh Coriander leaves chopped
  11. 1/4 Cup chopped Onions
  12. 1/4 Cup Chopped Tomatoes
  13. 1 tbsp lemon juice
  14. 1 tsp Chaat Masala


  1. Wash the Dal 4-5 Times or till it gets clean
  2. Soak it in appropriate water for 30 minutes
  3. After 30 minutes Drain the water
  4. Heat a non stick flat bottom pan
  5. Add Clarified Butter
  6. Add Cumin seeds
  7. Add Asafoetida
  8. Add Turmeric Powder
  9. Add Red Pepper Powder
  10. Sauté them
  11. Now add Dal into it
  12. Add 3/4 cup water into it
  13. Add salt as per the taste
  14. Mix them with the spatula
  15. Put the gas on low flame
  16. Cover the pan with a lid
  17. Let it cook for another 5 minutes
  18. You can add more water if it’s not cooked with that quantity of water
  19. Stir it once in between
  20. When it’s get almost done add Choped Onions
  21. Add tomatoes into it
  22. Add Green Chilies into it
  23. Add chopped Coriander leaves
  24. Add Chat Masala
  25. Add Lemon juice into it and mix them well
  26. Switch off the gas
  27. Let it rest for another 2 more minutes
  28. Fluff it with the fork so that it will not mashed
  29. Transfer it into a serving bowl
  30. Dry Moong Dal is ready to eat now
