ABOUT Idli - sambhar with chutney RECIPE

A traditional south Indian breakfast, my style.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For idli
  2. Urad dal 1 cup
  3. Rice 2 cup
  4. Salt to taste
  5. Water as required
  6. For sambhar
  7. 1/2 cup tuvar daal
  8. 2 cup chopped vegetables like beans ,potato,onions,bringle
  9. 1 spoon sambhar powder
  10. 1/2 tsp red chilly powder
  11. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  12. A pinch of asafoetida
  13. Salt to taste
  14. 2 tsp sesame oil
  15. 2 to 3 dry red chilly powder
  16. 10 curry leaves
  17. Chutney:
  18. 1/2 cup chopped coconut
  19. 1 green chilly
  20. Salt as required

Instructions

  1. Soak rice and urad daal for 6 hours.
  2. Then both grind. Keep aside for 8 hours.
  3. Then ADD salt ,take idli moulds and place a drop of oil , and batter spread it over the entire moulds.
  4. Idli is ready.
  5. Sambhar:
  6. Boiled daal in pressure cooker.
  7. In pan heat oil,crackle the mustard seeds,fenugreek seeds,red chilly ,asafoetida and curry leabes, vegetables ,
  8. After cooked vegetables ,add all spices, salt,daal.
  9. Then cooked 5 minutes.
  10. Sambhar is ready.
  11. Chutney:
  12. Blend together all the chutney's ingredients.
