ABOUT Sarson da saag RECIPE

Sarson da Saag is a popular Punjabi recipe made using a combination of mustard leaves and spinach. This is a perfect dish to be eaten during chilly winter afternoons. Pair it up with makkai ki roti along with white butter and enjoy the traditional Punjabi delicacy!

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Fresh chopped mustard leaves 250 grm
  2. Chopped spinach 250 grm
  3. Chopped onion 1 cup
  4. Chopped Ginger garlic 2 tsp
  5. Salt as per taste
  6. Oil 2 tsp
  7. Ghee 1 tbsp
  8. Fresh cream 1 tbsp
  9. Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  10. Chopped green chillies
  11. Kasouri methi
  12. Sliced tomato
  13. Cornflour 2 tsp

Instructions

  1. For making this easy recipe, wash and clean the mustard leaves and spinach. Cut and peel the stems of mustard leaves before cutting, then finely chop all the leaves.
  2. Pressure cook all these leaves for one hour approximately. Put in ginger and 10 garlic cloves along with the leaves. Let it cool for some time.
  3. Take out the mixture and put it in a blender with corn flour for 30 seconds. Mixture should remain a little lumpy.
  4. Heat 2 tablespoon ghee in deep-frying vessel, when it has melted put in 10 cloves of finely chopped garlic. When the garlic has turned brown, add finely chopped onions and green chillies in the vessel.
  5. When onions turn dark golden, add the saag mixture, salt (to taste) and turmeric.
  6. Add red chilly powder (optional). Let it cook for 30 minutes till it comes to required consistency to eat.
  7. When the saag has prepared, pour melted ghee and fresh cream on top.
  8. Garnish with fresh tomato slice and coriander leaves.
  9. Serve with makki di roti and ghee...
