Sakkarai Pongal - Sweet Pongal

Ingredients to make Sakkarai Pongal - Sweet Pongal

  • 1 cup rice
  • 1/4 cup moong dal
  • 2 cups jaggery
  • 4 cups milk
  • Pinch of saffron
  • 4 pinches powdered elaichi
  • 1 pinch powdered ginger and nutmeg
  • Half cup ghee
  • 1/4 cup cashews and raisins

How to make Sakkarai Pongal - Sweet Pongal

  1. Take a pressure cooker and add a couple of spoons of ghee and slightly roast the moong dal
  2. Pressure moong dal with rice for 4 whistles
  3. In a pot add milk cooked rice and dal
  4. Add jaggery and cook for 20 minutes until all the milk is absorbed
  5. Add the elaichi, nutmeg and dried ginger
  6. Sauté few spoons of ghee with cashews and raisins
  7. Add to the pongal and yummy pongal is ready

My Tip:

Adding nutmeg and ginger makes this delicious
