Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Oats - 1 & half glass
  2. Yellow moong dal - half glass
  3. Ginger - 1 tspn chopped fine
  4. Cashew - 5 to 6 for garnish
  5. Ghee - 1 tbspn
  6. Turmeric pwdr - half tspn
  7. Cumin seeds- 1 tspn
  8. Pepper corn - 1 tspn
  9. Curry leaves - few
  10. Hing /Asafoetida - 1 pinch
  11. Water for cooking - abt 4 to 5 glasses
  12. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Take a kadai and heat it. Dry roast the yellow moong dal till you get a nice aroma. Don't make it brown,then remove it in a bowl...and wash the dal.
  2. Then take the oats and dry roast for a few minutes.
  3. Now put the dal & oats in a pressure cooker pour water and put salt & turmeric pwdr....mix well & cook till 1 whistle.... and soft.
  4. When done check it... add water if very thick.... mix well
  5. In a small tadka pan put ghee, fry cashews and keep aside....
  6. Then in the same pan put the cumin seeds, hing, pepper, chopped ginger & curry leaves.
  7. Fry well and then pour it over the cooked oats & dal....
  8. Garnish with fried cashews & curry leaves...
  9. Enjoy Hot Pongal with chutney or sambhar :relaxed:
