ABOUT Daal Methi...(Fenugreek daal) RECIPE

A yummy and a healthy side dish that goes well with chapatis and rotis. It can be served with plain boiled rice and mutton fry. Methi leaves are added to it for that added freshness of healthy greens in lentils. The colour looks lovely too and tastes super delicious.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Red lentils or masoor dal 1 cup
  2. Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
  3. Salt 1 tsp
  4. Tomatoes chopped 3
  5. Onions chopped 2
  6. Fenugreek or fresh methi leaves 1 cup
  7. Oil or ghee 3 tbsp
  8. Turmeric 1/2 tsp
  9. RED CHILLI POWDER 1 TBSP
  10. Coriander leaves chopped 1/4th cup
  11. Garam masala 1/2 tsp

Instructions

  1. Heat oil or ghee.
  2. Meanwhile soak dal in about one and half a cup of water.
  3. Add ginger garlic paste and onions. saute them until translucent.
  4. Add chopped tomatoes and the rest of the spices too.
  5. Cover and cook on low heat until tender and soft.
  6. Add soaked masoor dal and fenugreek leaves now.
  7. Add salt and cook it until soft.
  8. Cook it on medium high heat.
  9. Add the water in which it was soaked to it and cover.
  10. Do not add much water otherwise it tends to become mushy.
  11. Let all the water dry up but see to it that it does not become too dry. It should be soft and firm.
  12. Garnish with coriander leaves and sprinkle fresh homemade garam masala before serving.
