ABOUT Khara Pori | Spiced puffed rice RECIPE

Kara Pori or spiced puffed rice or murmura chivda is a low fat (guilt free) Indian snack. It’s involves very less cooking and has lot of vital nutrient factors. A lot of varieties of puffed rice snacks are prepared in India and I have fond memories of eating this spicy pori in Cubbon park in Bangalore. It’s a very good snack that is eaten for time pass in these parks.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 1 cup – puffed rice (pori)
  2. 2 tbspn – peanuts
  3. 2 tbspn – roasted gram
  4. 2-3 full cloves of garlic with skin crushed
  5. 1 sprig – curry leaves
  6. 2 teaspoon red chili powder
  7. 1/4 tspn – turmeric powder
  8. A pinch of asafoetida
  9. Salt – for taste
  10. 2 tspn oil (coconut oil is best)

Instructions

  1. In a kadai, heat oil, to hot oil add crushed garlic and toss for some time. Next add peanuts and roasted bengal gram and roast it until peanuts and gram dal turns golden brown.
  2. Turn off heat and immediately add curry leaves, chilli powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida salt and mix well. Do not let the spice powders burn.
  3. Next add puffed rice and give it a good toss.
  4. Serve this spicy Khara Pori along with tea.
  5. It’s a guilt free snack for all weight watchers. So enjoy this snack as much you want.
