A warm bowl of flavourful soup is always welcome, especially in chilly winters. Some like their soups tangy, some spicy and some rustic and thick! Here’s a soup which is combination of flavours and health and can be prepared in a jiffy

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Green gram/whole green moong 150 gm
  2. 1 small sweet potato
  3. 3-4 garlic pearls deskined and finely chopped
  4. 1 small onion sliced finely
  5. salt to taste
  6. 1 Tb ground black pepper powder
  7. 1 ts paprika
  8. 1 Tb all spice powder
  9. 4-5 Tb of thick coconut milk (optional)
  10. 1 tb butter


  1. Soak the green gram for 30minutes prior cooking
  2. Pressure cook the gram using the same water upto 2 whistles or until soft
  3. Boil the sweet potato and deskin and chop into cubes after it’s cool
  4. Melt butter in a wok or a non stick pan and sauté the onions and garlic until the garlic brown and onions become translucent
  5. Add the sweet potatoes and sauté for another 5 minutes
  6. Finally add the green gram with the water used for cooking,salt,pepper,paprika, all spice powder
  7. Combine all the ingredients well and add a cup of water
  8. Reduce heat and let the soup simmer for 5-7 minutes or till the desired thickness is achieved and then add the coconut milk. Mix and take off heat
  9. Serve hot in soup bowls
