ABOUT Fish Balchao RECIPE

Another superb Goan fish curry for all the fish lovers out there!

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. A Kingfish or any other firm white-fleshed fish
  2. 1 Onion
  3. Oil for shallow frying
  4. 20 dried Red chillies
  5. 1 tsp Black pepper
  6. 1 tbsp Ginger garlic paste
  7. 1/2 inch piece Turmeric (or 1/2 tsp grounded)
  8. 3 Cloves
  9. 1 inch piece of Cinnamon stick
  10. 1 tsp Coriander seeds
  11. 1/4 tsp Cumin seeds
  12. 2 Tomatoes finely chopped
  13. 1/2 cup Coconut milk
  14. 1 tbsp Vinegar
  15. 1/4 cup Coriander leaves chopped
  16. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Marinate the fish with salt, 1/2 tsp pepper and ginger garlic paste for 15-20 mins
  2. Grind red chillies, pepper,turmeric, cloves,coriander seeds and vinegar together.
  3. Heat oil in the pan and saute onions till brown.
  4. Add tomatoes and cook till the oil separates.
  5. Add the prepared paste in the pan and cook for 5 mins.
  6. Then add fish and coconut oil. Cook it for 7-10 mins on low flame.
  7. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve it with rice or malabar parantha.
