ABOUT Tricolour's idli with sambar RECIPE

This is a traditional south Indian breakfast, and here i have some lovely healthy colors and flavours to it .

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. For Dosa Batter:
  2. Rice - 3 cups
  3. 1 cup Urad dal
  4. 1 cup Chana dal
  5. Baking soda - 1, tsp
  6. Salt - add to taste
  7. 1 bowl of coriander chutney for green idli ..
  8. 1 bowl of carrots puree for orange idli..
  9. 3 bowl of plain white ldli..
  10. 1 tsp soda
  11. oil
  12. Ingredient's of sambar
  13. 1 bowl if tur dal [washed and soaked]
  14. 1 chopped onions
  15. 3-4 tomatoes [pureed]
  16. 1 tsp ginger garlic green chilly paste
  17. 1 tsp red chilly powder
  18. 1 tsp turmeric powder
  19. Salt as per taste
  20. 1 tsp sambar masala
  21. 2 to 3 tbsp oil

Instructions

  1. Soak the dal and rice over night, drain and make a paste. Let this ferment or if you want to make it instantly, add soda to it and give it a mix. Add required amount of salt and mix well. Divide this batter into 3 parts.
  2. Add carrot chutney to one part for the orange idlis, green chutney to another part for the green idlis and 2 tsp of oil to the plain white part. Mix well.
  3. Pour the idli batters to the greased moulds, steam them in a steamer for 20 minutes. rest and demould them.
  4. For the sambhar, boil the dal until cooked. Now in a pan, add oil and once heated, add curry leaves, mustard seeds followed by the sliced onions.
  5. Now once the onions are translucent, add the ginger garlic and chilly paste. Add the tomato puree followed by the powdered masalas and salt.
  6. Once the tomato masala is cooked, add the boiled dal followed by required amount of water. Let this boil, check for seasoning and serve hot with the idlis.
