Palak Khichdi

Ingredients to make Palak Khichdi

  • Brown rice 1 cup
  • Split pigeon peas (toor dal) 1/2 cup
  • palak puree 1/4 bunch
  • onion 1 big
  • tomato 1 finely chopped
  • garlic 10 finely chopped
  • ginger 1 teaspoon finely chopped
  • Green chilli 2 finely chopped
  • cumin seeds 1 tablespoon
  • asafoetida 1 teasppon
  • turmeric 1 teasppon
  • coriander powder 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala 1 tablespoon
  • ghee 1 Tablespoon
  • Dry red chilli 1 for tempering

How to make Palak Khichdi

  1. Soak toor dal and Brown rice for sometime and then pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  2. Add Ghee in a pan. Once hot Add in cumin seeds and asafoetida. Add onions and fry until pinkish.
  3. Add chopped Garlic, ginger and green chillies and sakte for 1 minute
  4. Add tomatoes and saute until soft
  5. Add spinach puree, rest of dry masala and salt. Mix well.
  6. Add in the rice and toor dal mix. Mix well on low flame for 2 mins.
  7. I separate pan, prepare tadka of ghee, jeera, garlic and dried red chilli and pour it in the khichdi. Turn off the flame and keep the pan close for 1 min. Khichdi is ready to eat.

My Tip:

Blanch the spinach before you puree it. You can add in veges of your choice.
