This is a healthy traditional receipe of my hometown tirunelveli in south india .we make this next day of pongal festival and also take with us during travel .iam reminded of my childhood memories whenever i make this dish.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Vegetables to cut :
  2. potato -1
  3. Carrot -2
  4. Beans -12
  5. Raw banana -1
  6. Brinjal -6
  7. Broad beans -8
  8. Tender field beans - a handful
  9. Greens - a handful
  10. Other Ingredients:
  11. Rice -1 cup
  12. Toor dal -1/2 cup
  13. Tamarind - 1 lemon size
  14. Water -5 cups
  15. Salt -as needed
  16. Masala paste :
  17. Small onion -10
  18. Garlic -3
  19. Red chillies -7
  20. Grated coconut -1/4 cup
  21. Temper :
  22. Gingellly oil -2 table spoon
  23. Mustard seeds -1 tea spoon
  24. Urad dal -1 teaspoon
  25. Curry leaves - little

Instructions

  1. Cut all the veggies and greens
  2. In a cooker cook rice and toor dal with given quantity of water until soft and mashy.
  3. Now grind the ingredients given under grinding with little water into fine paste
  4. In a kadai add gingerlly oil and temper the given ingredients and add the vegetables .Saute for a minute or two and add tamarind extract and salt to it and boil .
  5. When vegetables are cooked add the grounded masala paste to it and boil for few more minutes.
  6. Then add the cooked rice and dhal mixture and stir it for sometime so that all the ingredients blend well .
  7. Serve hot with papads.
