Bored with regular pongal ... Try this.. healthy version of pongal with millets and vegetables.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1/2 cup split moong dal + navane (foxtail millet)
  2. 3 cups water
  3. 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  4. 3 green chillies
  5. 1/2 carrot grated
  6. 1/4 cup beans + capsicum
  7. 1/2 teaspoon jeera
  8. 1/2 teaspoon pepper corns
  9. Pinch of turmeric
  10. Salt as per taste
  11. Few coriander leaves
  12. For tempering:
  13. 2 teaspoon ghee
  14. Little mustard seeds
  15. Few curry leaves


  1. Soak foxtail millet (navane) and split moong dal for atleast 15 minutes.
  2. In a cooker add in water and bring it to boil on a medium flame.
  3. Add in grated carrot, chopped beans, chopped capsicum, coriander leaves, ginger and slit green chillies.
  4. After few minutes, add in the soaked millet + dal.
  5. Add in jeera, pepper corns, turmeric and salt.
  6. Close the lid and cook for 2 to 3 whistles or until done.
  7. Tempering: add ghee in a pan. Heat it. Add mustard seeds, curry leaves and allow it to splutter.
  8. Now add the tempering to the pongal. Mix well. Serve hot with curd or Chutney of your choice.
