Moong dal khichdi

Ingredients to make Moong dal khichdi

  • 1 cup rice
  • 3/4 cup moong dal
  • 1 table spoon green peas
  • 2 tomatoes chopped
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 green chilli chopped
  • Small piece of ginger crushed
  • 1 Whole red chilli
  • 1/2 tea spoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tea spoon red chilli powder
  • 1/4 tea spoon haldi powder
  • 1/4 jeera powder
  • 1/4 tea spoon Garam Masala
  • salt as per taste
  • Ghee / clarified butter 1 table spoon
  • 6 cups water

How to make Moong dal khichdi

  1. Soaked both rice and dal for 1/2 HR before you start making khichdi
  2. Take a pressure cooker add ghee or clarified butter wait till ghee gets hot
  3. Once ghee is hot add cumin seeds let it splutter
  4. Now add onions, whole red chilli, Green chili and ginger
  5. Saute for two minutes
  6. Now add chopped tomatoes and green peas and mix well
  7. Now add all the masala's & salt except garam masala and cook it for 2 to 3 minutes until tomatoes become little soft
  8. Now add both dal and rice mix well
  9. Now add the garam masala mix well
  10. Add the water
  11. Please check the seasoning after adding water
  12. Now closed the pressure cooker 3 whistle on high flame 5 minutes on low flame
  13. Off the gas and don't open the pressure cooker till it loose all the pressure

My Tip:

You can increase the quantity of ghee or clarified butter as per your choice
