It's a simple and yummy recipe, to be served with some hot rice on the side.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Toovar dal - 300g
  2. Water - 825ml
  3. Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  4. Turmeric - 1/2 teaspoon
  5. 500g spinach, rinsed and chopped
  6. Onion - 1 chopped
  7. Garlic - 5
  8. Cumin - 1 tbs
  9. Red chillis - 3
  10. Oil

Instructions

  1. Rinse dal and soak for 20 minutes.
  2. In a large pan, bring water to the boil and stir in dal .
  3. Cover and return to the boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. Stir in the spinach (palak) and cook 10 minutes, or until dal is soft. Add more water if necessary.
  5. In a small pan over medium heat, oil and stir fry onions with cumin , garlic and red chillis , stirring often. Then add tumeric to tadka.
  6. Cook until onions are transparent, and then combine with dal.
  7. Serve palak dal with rice.
