Ingredients to make Hyderabadi Chicken Khichda...

  • chicken boneless cubes 700 gm
  • Raw rice 1 cup
  • Broken wheat 1 cup
  • Bengal gram 1/4th cup (chana dal)
  • Pigeon pea lentils 1/4th cup (Toor dal)
  • Red lentils 1/4th cup (masoor dal)
  • Blackgram 1/4th cup (urad dal)
  • Yellow lentils 1/4th cup (moong dal)
  • ghee 3 tbsp
  • oil 1/4th cup
  • salt 1 tbsp
  • ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp
  • cumin powder 1 tbsp
  • coriander powder 1 tbsp
  • turmeric 1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala 1 tsp
  • red chilli powder 2 tbsp
  • onions sliced 2 cups
  • curd 1 cup
  • green chillies chopped 3
  • coriander leaves chopped 1/2 cup
  • mint leaves chopped 1/2 cup
  • ginger juliennes 2 tbsp
  • lemon juice 2 tbsp

How to make Hyderabadi Chicken Khichda...

  1. First of all deep fry the onions and set aside.
  2. Soak the rice, broken wheat and lentils overnight.
  3. In a pressure cooker, add soaked rice, broken wheat and lentils along with half a litre of water.
  4. Add salt according to taste.
  5. Pressure cook for 7 whistles.
  6. In a separate cooking pot, heat oil and add ginger garlic paste.
  7. Add chicken cubes to it along with all the spices including the garam masala.
  8. Also add the beaten curd to it.
  9. Saute them all on a low flame and simmer until tender.
  10. It will be done in 25 minutes.
  11. Add this cooked chicken to the pressure cooker with rice and lentil mix.
  12. Add fried onions too. Reserve some for garnishing.
  13. Mix everything well.
  14. Simmer on low flame for a further 10 to 15 minutes.
  15. Add ghee and garnish with coriander and mint leaves.
  16. Also squeeze some lemon juice. Garnish with ginger juliennes and fried onions before serving.
