Sooji Paniyaram

Ingredients to make Sooji Paniyaram

  • 1 cup rava / semolina / sooji
  • ¾ cup curd / yogurt
  • salt to taste
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 tsp oil
  • 1 green chilli, finely chopped
  • ½ onion, finely chopped
  • pinch baking soda

How to make Sooji Paniyaram

  1. Firstly, in a large mixing bowl combine 1 cup rava, ¾ cup curd and ½ tsp salt.
  2. Mix well to form a paste without forming any lumps.
  3. Further add ½ cup water or as required.
  4. Mix well to form thick batter. keep aside.
  5. Add 1 green chilli and ½ onion to the rava batter and mix well.
  6. Rest for 20 minutes or untill rava absorbs water.
  7. Furthermore add a pinch baking soda just before preparing paniyaram and combine well.
  8. Heat paniyaram pan / guliyappa pan / appe pan, add add few drops of oil inside the holes.
  9. Now fill the holes with a tbsp of sooji batter in each.
  10. Cover and simmer for a minute or untill paniyaram gets cooked slightly.
  11. Once the base turns golden, flip it over to the other side using a spoon.
  12. Simmer further and cook on low heat until it turns golden browns.
  13. Finally, serve instant rava paniyaram with tomato chutney or coconut chutney.
