MASOOR CHAAWAL

Ingredients to make MASOOR CHAAWAL

  • 1 cup whole Masoor
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1/2 tsp ginger paste
  • 2 chopped tomatoes
  • 1/2 tsp haldi powder
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder.
  • FOR rice ; 1 cup uncooked white rice
  • 2 Cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon butter

How to make MASOOR CHAAWAL

  1. Wash and soak the Masoor for 2-3 hours .
  2. Drain and add fresh water , salt , haldi and coriander powder and cook in a cooker for 2-3 whistles .
  3. In a pan heat the oil add cumin seeds and allow them to splutter, then add onions and fry till translucent, add the ginger paste fry for 3-4 mins.
  4. Add the tomatoes and cook till a little mushy. Add this masala to the boiled Daal cook for 10 mins.
  5. Add a little garam masala powder. Masoor daal is ready to serve .
  6. For Rice ; Wash and rinse the rice .
  7. In a large pan bring water to a boil. Add the salt and butter, stir and then add the rinsed and drained rice.
  8. Reduce the heat, cover the rice, and let it simmer for 20 minutes, to see if all the water has evaporated. If it has, the rice is ready.
  9. Make a bowl with rice into a plate than pour daal into a rice bowl and serve with salad .

My Tip:

Try papad and pickle along with it .
