Dal Tadka

Ingredients to make Dal Tadka

  • Mix daal 1/2 cup
  • water 1 glass
  • turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
  • salt 1/4 tsp
  • For tadka
  • oil 2 tbsp
  • ghee 2 tbsp
  • cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
  • mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
  • asafoetida 1/2 tsp
  • Dry red chilli 2
  • bay leaf 1
  • star anise 1
  • cloves 2
  • Crushed chilli, ginger, garlic 1 tbsp
  • Grated onion large 1
  • Grated tomatoes 2
  • Dry coriander seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Kashmiri red chilli powder 1 tbsp
  • Dry coriander powder 1 tbsp
  • salt to taste
  • Green garlic chopped 1 tsp
  • coriander leaves chopped 1 tbsp
  • For garlicky tadka :-
  • ghee 2 tsp
  • cumin seeds 1/8 tsp
  • Dry red chilli 1
  • Dry garlic chopped 7 to 8
  • Green garlic chopped 1/4 tsp

How to make Dal Tadka

  1. TAKE 1/2 CUP SOAKED MIX DAL
  2. ADD TO A COOKER ALONG WITH 1 CUP WATER
  3. ADD 1/4 EACH TURMERIC POWDER & SALT
  4. COOK UPTO 3-4 WHISTLES
  5. HEAT 2 TBSP EACH OF OIL & GHEE, ADD 1/2 TSP EACH OF CUMIN & MUSTARD SEEDS
  6. ADD 2 DRY CHILLIES, 2 CLOVES, 1 STAR ANISE, 1 BAYLEAF
  7. ADD 1/2 TSP ASAFOETIDA
  8. ADD 1 TBSP CRUSHED GREEN CHILLI-GINGER- GARLIC.
  9. ADD 1 GRATED ONION, SAUTE UNTIL IT TURNS GOLDEN BROWN
  10. ADD 2 GRATED TOMATOES, COOK FOR 5 MINS
  11. ADD 1/2 TSP CORIANDER SEEDS, 1 TBSP RED CHILLI
  12. ADD SALT TO TASTE
  13. ADD 1 TBSPCORIANDER POWDER, MIX
  14. ADD THE DAL, BRING IT TO A BOIL
  15. ADD 1 TSP CHOPPED SPRING ONION GREENS, 1 TBSP CORIANDER LEAVES, SIMMER FOR 3-4 MINS
  16. HEAT 2 TSP GHEE IN A TADKA PAN
  17. ADD 1/4 TSP CUMIN SEEDS, 1 DRY RED CHILLI
  18. ADD 1/4 TSP CHOPPED SPRING ONION GREENS, 7-8 GARLIC CLOVES
  19. POUR THE TADKA OVER THE DAL
