Ingredients to make Ripe Jackfruit Sweet Appe

  • Ripe Jackfruit pods/gare, chopped- 2 cups
  • jaggery- ½ cup
  • Rawa/Sooji/ semolina- 1 cup
  • Fresh coconut scrapped- ¼ to ½ cup
  • Black or white sesame seeds- 1 tbsp (optional)
  • cardamom Powder- ¼ tsp
  • nutmeg powder- ½ tsp
  • salt- a pinch
  • baking soda- a pinch
  • Oil or clarified butter for greasing- as required

How to make Ripe Jackfruit Sweet Appe

  1. Dry roast semolina about 5 minutes to remove it's rawness.
  2. Discard the seeds and chop the clean jackfruit pods.
  3. Grind chopped jackfruit along with jaggery into smooth paste without adding water.
  4. Transfer this paste into a mixing bowl. Then add semolina cardamom powder, nutmeg powder, scrapped coconut, black sesame seeds, baking soda and salt.
  5. Mix well and allow the mixture to rest for 20 to 30 minutes.
  6. Heat the non-stick 'Appe' pan. Apply a little oil in the rounds.
  7. Pour the above mixture in the pan. Cover and cook for few minutes. Fry both sides until it will be cooked & became golden brown.
  8. Serve them warm or at room temperature.

My Tip:

This Jackfruit should be very sweet. Adjust quantity of jaggery according to sweetness of jackfruit. Use semolina which is medium coarse (jada rawa). This gives a crispiness to the appe.
