Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Black channa - 1 cup
  2. Tomato - 2
  3. onion - 1
  4. Green chilly -4
  5. Ginger garlic paste - 2 tablespoon
  6. Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon
  7. Water
  8. Salt - as needed
  9. Coconut oil - 3 tablespoon
  10. To Grind :
  11. Grated coconut - 1 cup
  12. Red chilly - 2 tablespoon
  13. Coriander powder - 2 tablespoon
  14. Turmeric Powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  15. Shallots - 10
  16. Cardamom seeds -4
  17. Cinnamon stick - 3
  18. Cloves - 3
  19. Fennel seeds - 1 teaspoon
  20. For Tempering :
  21. oil
  22. Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  23. Red chilly - 2
  24. Shallots -6
  25. curry leaves

Instructions

  1. Soak black Channa overnight and pressure cook it for 3 whistles. Set aside.
  2. Chop onion, tomato, shallots and set aside.
  3. Take a pan , add oil, shallots, cinnamon stick, cardamom , cloves.roast it well.
  4. Add grated coconut and roast till it turns brown in colour.
  5. Add fennel seeds to it and saute for a min.
  6. Add coriander powder, redchilly powder and turmeric powder. Mix everything well. Turn off the stove.
  7. Allow it to cool completely. Grind it to a smooth paste using 3 tablespoons of water and set aside.
  8. Take another pan add oil, add ginger - garlic paste, green chillies. Saute until raw smell goes away.
  9. Add onion and saute until it turns translucent.
  10. Add tomatoes and cook till it turns mushy.
  11. Add turmeric powder. Mix well.
  12. Add cooked black Channa and water. Close it with a lid. Cook for 5 min.
  13. Now add grounded paste to our cook black Channa masala.
  14. Add salt and mix everything well.
  15. Allow it to boil.
  16. Take a pan, add oil. Once it starts spluttering add well-chopped shallots and red chilly, curry leaves. Roast till shallots turns brown in colour.
  17. Pour it over the cooked black Channa curry.mix well.
  18. Serve it hot with aapam, puttu.
