Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup gram flour
  2. 1/2 cup semolina
  3. 1 1/2 cup chopped fenugreek leaves
  4. 1/2 cup buttermilk
  5. 3-4 tbsp chopped coriander
  6. 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  7. 1 tbsp lemon juice
  8. 1-1/2 tsp ginger-green chili paste
  9. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  10. 1 tsp crushed peppercorns
  11. 1 tsp sugar
  12. 1 tsp red chili powder
  13. 1 tsp Fennel seeds
  14. 1 tsp whole coriander seeds
  15. 1/2 tsp turmeric
  16. 1/2 tsp garam masala
  17. 1/4 tsp soda bicarbonate
  18. oil for frying


  1. Mix all ingredients to make a thick batter and let it stand for 15-20 mins. The buttermilk makes the gotas light.
  2. Heat oil on a medium low flame and using hand put small portions for deep frying. Fry till golden brown and crisp and remove on a kitchen towel.
  3. Serve hot with green chutney or tomato sauce
