ABOUT Jalapeños Fritters (Mirch Pakoda) RECIPE

The famous street food of Rajasthan. The jalapeño chillies are stuffed with potato mixture and fried with a coating with gram flour batter. In Rajasthan, especially jaipur you will find mirch pakoda accompanied with kadhi.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 8 Thick green chillies
  2. For the batter:
  3. 2 tbsp Gramflour
  4. 1 tsp salt
  5. 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  6. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  7. 1 tsp finely chopped corriander
  8. oil for frying
  9. For potatoes stuffing:
  10. 2 large boiled potatoes
  11. 1 tsp salt
  12. 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  13. 1/2 tsp dry mango powder
  14. 1/2 tsp chopped corriander
  15. ginger juliennes to garnish


  1. For stuffing :
  2. Peel and mash the boiled potatoes and add all seasonings for stuffing.
  3. Mix together and form a fine paste. Keep aside.
  4. For the Batter :
  5. In a bowl mix together all ingredients of batter along with water and make a semi thick paste.
  6. To assemble :
  7. Take the chillies and slit them in between to deseed them.
  8. Fill in the stuffing and dip in the batter.
  9. Fry on medium hot flame till golden brown.
  10. Place on a tissue paper to remove the excess oil and serve hot with sauce of your choice.
  11. Garnish with ginger juliennes and enjoy.

I make a paste of roasted Til,roasted zeera,tamarind(imli) and salt and use it for stuffing the jalepenos then put it in the same batter and fry. It's a Hyderabadi favourite and very yummy . Serve it with green chutney.
