My daughter loves this kheema I make for her, this is for Kaajal. I hope you enjoy it as much as she does. Pure comfort food.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. 500 gms mutton or chicken mince (mutton tastes much better)
  2. 500 gms onions finely chopped
  3. 6 cloves garlic + 1 inch ginger made into a paste
  4. 100 gms tomato pureed
  5. 100 gms curds (beaten)
  6. 3 Dried Red Chillies
  7. 2 inch sticks cinnamon - 2
  8. 10 cloves
  9. 2 pods black cardamom
  10. 10 Black peppercorns
  11. 3 Star Anise
  12. 1 tbsp dhania/jeera powder
  13. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  14. 1/4 tsp hing
  15. 1 tbsp sambar masala
  16. Red chilli powder
  17. salt to taste
  18. 50 gms fresh dhania
  19. 1 tbsp kasuri methi powder
  20. 2 tbsp oil


  1. Brown the onions and keep aside.
  2. In a cooker put the oil, red chillies and whole spices. When they start to crackle add the browned onions, garlic ginger paste and saute for about 5 minutes. Add the powdered spices and the tomato puree.
  3. Cook until the tomato puree and the rest of the ingredients are properly mixed.
  4. Add most of the fresh dhania (about 90%) and the kasuri methi and keep cooking for another 5 minutes.
  5. Add the beaten curds and stir for another 5 minutes.
  6. Add the mince of chicken or mutton and roast well until the oil releases.
  7. Add water and close the cooker. Cook on a low heat until the mince is cooked. For mutton kheema wait for 2 whistles. (For chicken you do not need to pressure cook it)
  8. Garnish with the remaining dhania and serve with sunny side up eggs and Laddi pav or any pav.
