About Banana Toffee Recipe

Banana toffee is a classic Chinese dessert. Banana slices are coated in flour batter, deep fried and then coated in caramel sauce, dipped in ice cold water, sprinkle with sesame seeds and then served as a dessert. It even goes well with icecream.

Banana Toffee

Ingredients to make Banana Toffee

  • 3 large ripe bananas
  • oil for deep frying
  • Ice cold water as required
  • 2 tbsps White and black sesame seeds
  • For Batter : 3 tbsps all purpose flour
  • 3 tbsps cornflour
  • ¼ tsp Baking powder
  • 3-4 tbsps cold water
  • For Caramel : 1 cup sugar
  • ¼ cup water

How to make Banana Toffee

  1. Peel the banana and slice them into thick round slices. Keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a deep frying pan.
  3. Take the batter ingredients and make a smooth batter without lumps. The batter should not be running, should be slightly thick.
  4. Take a skewer, dip the banana slices in batter and deep fry them in batches till golden. Remove in an absorbent paper and keep aside.
  5. To make the caramel, in a pan add water and sugar and cook on low heat till the sugar melts and caramelised and turns golden. Take off the heat.
  6. Now take the fried banana and dip them in the caramelised sugar, drop them in the ice cold water and immediately take them out.
  7. Drain them and sprinkle sesame seeds and serve as it is or serve with icecream.
