Aromatic fish fry, made in banana leaf. perfect starter for all occasions.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  3. chilli Powder – 1/2 tsp
  4. turmeric Powder– 1/2 tsp
  5. salt to taste
  6. lemon juice – 2 tsp
  7. coconut Oil – 3 tblspn
  8. For Masala:
  9. Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  10. cumin Seeds – 1/2 tsp
  11. onion – 1 large chopped finely
  12. ginger – 1 tsp finely minced
  13. garlic – 1 tsp finely minced
  14. Green chilli – 1 finely chopped
  15. Curry leaves – 1 sprig chopped
  16. tomatoes – 1 large chopped finely
  17. chilli powder – 1 tsp
  18. Garam masala Powder – 1 tsp
  19. turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi – 1/2 tsp
  20. salt to taste
  21. coriander leaves – 3 tblspn finely chopped
  22. Thick coconut Milk – 1/4 cup
  23. lemon juice – 2 tsp

Instructions

  1. Take fish steaks in a bowl and add in all the marination ingredients and mix well. Let it marinate for 10 mins.
  2. Now heat oil in a kadai. Fry the fish steaks in hot oil for 3 mins on each side and remove it to a plate.
  3. Now in the remaining oil. Add in mustard and cumin seeds and let it sizzle for 30 sec.
  4. Add in finely chopped onions, ginger, garlic, green chilli and curry leaves.Fry this for 3 to 4 mins till it is light golden.
  5. Now add in all the spice powders and salt. Mix well.
  6. Add in finely chopped tomatoes and cook for 5 mins till it turns mushy.
  7. Now add in coriander leaves and coconut milk. Mix well and simmer it till it is reduced and thickened.
  8. Now squeeze in the lemon juice and mix well. Now the masala is done.
  9. Take a banana leaf and place a spoonful of masala on the banana leaf. Place the fried fish on top of the masala. Spoon some more masala over the fish and fold the leaf.
  10. Now cover the entire thing with banana leaf so a parcel is formed.
  11. Now heat a tawa on medium heat. Place the parcel over the tawa and cook for 12 mins on each side.
  12. Now remove it from tawa and open the parcel and serve hot.
