About Jackfruit Idlis Recipe

Jackfruit Idli is a tasty breakfast or snack recipe that is very famous in coastal Karnataka. A tasty recipe to satisfy my sweet cravings.

Jackfruit Idlis

Ingredients to make Jackfruit Idlis

  • rice Rava 1/2 cup
  • Ripe jackfruit. 1.25 cup
  • coconut grated 1/2 cup
  • jaggery  1/4 cup
  • a pinch salt
  • elaichi powdered 1
  • ghee to grease idli moulds

How to make Jackfruit Idlis

  1. Peel, deseed and chop jackfruit roughly. 
  2. In a mixer, grind jackfruit pieces and jaggery
  3. Add very little water. Jaggery will leave water as you grind.
  4. Once it smoothens a bit,add grated coconut and elaichi.
  5. Add no water or very very little water and grind to a smooth paste.
  6. Transfer the ground jackfruit puree into a mixing bowl .
  7. Add little water say less than 1/4 cup to the puree
  8. Add rice rava and salt to it .
  9. Mix everything well . Allow the mixture to sit for 20 mins so that rice rava soaks well in the mix.
  10. After the mentioned time , check the consistency of the batter
  11. It should be little thicker than idli batter . No fermentation is required.
  12. Heat water in a steamer.
  13. Grease idli moulds with ghee .Pour the batter into idli stand
  14. Steam for 15 mins on medium flame
  15. Prick a tooth pick,if it comes clean ... its done
  16. Allow it to cool a bit and remove from moulds using a spoon or knife.
  17. Sweet Jackfruit Idlis are ready to serve.
  18. Serve them hot or warm with a dollop of ghee and or honey or pickle . Tastes divine...

My Tip:

There is no need to ferment this idli dough. Just rest the batter for 20 minutes after adding rice rava.
