keep yellow pumpkin , washed and peeled , chopped into cubes . wash , peel sweet potatoes and also chop into cubes .
cook both in a pan of hot water with a pinch of turmeric powder .as pressure cooking might make it too mushy .
add just enough water to cook the vegetables, .
in pan , add the coconut oil , let it heat up, add mustard seeds, cumin and udad dal .
add curry leaves, add the cooked vegetables and gently stir as it will get too mushy .
add salt, pinch of asafoetida powder .
meanwhile grate fresh coconut and make a coarse paste in blender with green chillies
add this coconut green chillies paste to the vegetables, stir gently .
switch of flame . serve with rice and rasam .
