About Jackfruit Avial. Recipe

Avial is a traditional kerala dish. It s usually a mixture of almost all vegetables. But only with raw jackfruit, we can make tasty avial. There r 2 ways to make avial. One with curd & one with tamarind & onion. Both r tasty in it s own way.

Jackfruit Avial.

Ingredients to make Jackfruit Avial.

  • Raw jackfruit cut lengthwise 4 cups.
  • Grated coconut 1 to 1 1/4 cups
  • Small onion 12
  • green chillies 3
  • jeera 2 pinch
  • tamarind pulp 1 tbsp.
  • turmeric powder 2 pinch.
  • salt
  • coconut oil 2 tbsp.
  • curry leaves

How to make Jackfruit Avial.

  1. Cook jackfruit pieces with turmeric & salt , adding very little water. Stir occasionally.
  2. Put coconut , green chillies , jeera, onion and a few curry leaves in a mixi & run it for 2 , 3 sec. Just to crush it, not a paste.
  3. When jackfruit pieces r almost cooked , add tamarind . Let it simmer for one or two minutes.
  4. Then add coconut mixture. Mix well. Cook till everything is well mixed without breaking the jackfruit pieces.
  5. If u want it dry , then use very little water or u can make the same curry with semi gravy.
  6. Add coconut oil & curry leaves. Mix well.
  7. Serve hot with rice.

My Tip:

U can add curd also instead of tamarind. If u like a bit more sour taste , u can add more tamarind.
