About Beetroot vada Recipe

A traditional chettinad dish made with beetroot. Usually it is made with banana flower.

Ingredients to make Beetroot vada

  • Toor dal - 1/2 cup
  • Channa dal - 1/2 cup
  • cumin - 1/2 tsp
  • fennel - 1/2 tsp
  • onion - 1 - finely chopped
  • Beetroot - 2- grated
  • curry leaves - few - chopped
  • red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • oil for frying

How to make Beetroot vada

  1. Soak the dals together for 1 hour and without water grind coarsely with cumin and fennel seeds.
  2. Now, add the chilli powder, salt, curry leaves, onion and beetroot to the grinded dal and mix well together.
  3. Now take a lemon size ball and flatten it. Put this into the oil.
  4. Deep fry it till it is cooked and put it in tissue paper to remove excess oil...

My Tip:

You can also use carrot insted of beetroot.
