ABOUT Crab Masala RECIPE

This lightly spiced crab masala is a combination of my Nani and Mom's cooking style.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Fresh Crabs - 1 kg
  2. Oil - 1/4 Cup
  3. Ginger Paste - 1 tsp
  4. Garlic Paste -1 tsp
  5. Garam masala - 1/4 tsp
  6. Onion - 4 nos
  7. Tamarind - 1 small ball
  8. Dry Red Chillies- 4
  9. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  10. Garam Masala Powder - 1 tsp
  11. Black Peper - 2 tsp
  12. Cumin Seeds - 1 Tsp
  13. Coriander Seeds - 2 tsp
  14. Shredded Coconut - 5 tsp
  15. Salt to taste
  16. Few curry leaves

Instructions

  1. Clean the crabs well and keep it aside.
  2. Cut the onions into slices and soak the tamarind in a small bowl of water.
  3. Grind the following ingredients to make a paste, black pepper, cumin seeds, shredded coconut and a little water as needed.
  4. Heat oil in a pan, add the dry red chillies, curry leaves and cook till the curry leaves splatter.
  5. Next, add onion and cook till it turns golden brown in colour. Now add ginger, garlic, garam masala, turmeric and cook in a low heat till the raw smell goes away.
  6. Then add the crabs and cook for 2- 3 minutes on a high flame.
  7. Then add the ground paste, salt and the tamarind extract. Cook for 10 - 15 mins or till the crabs are completely cooked.
