ABOUT Rasatle Fov RECIPE

In Goa we have many varieties of fov made. Fov is Pohe or beaten rice. There is Batat Fov or aloo pohe which is well known all over India, but did you know about rasatle pohe?

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 300 gms (approx) Fov or pohe/ beaten rice
  2. Chutney Ingredients:-
  3. 1 coconut freshly grated
  4. 15 kali mirchi/ pepper corns
  5. 4 Kashmiri chillies
  6. 1 small rock of hing/asafoetida
  7. 1 tbsp jeera/cumin
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Ras Ingredients:-
  10. 1-2 coconuts freshly grated
  11. 1/4 cup thick tamarind juice
  12. 1/4 cup jaggery grated (adjust as per taste)

Instructions

  1. Dry roast the cumin seeds, pepper, chillies, and the hing/asafoetida .Set this aside.
  2. Place the jaggery in tamarind water,set aside. Blend the grated coconuts in a grinder with 1 cup of water.
  3. Beat this mixture, add more water to get a smooth paste,strain it with a fine sieve, cheese cloth.
  4. Press the coconut with the back of a spoon to get juice out. This iscalled “das ras /thick coconut milk” in Konkani.
  5. Move the coconut back to the grinder and extract the juice again in a similar way. Collect this juice in a vessel, this is the “patal ras /thin coconut milk”.
  6. Place the patal ras and das ras milk in the refrigerator to cool. Grind the cooled ingredients with coconut to a fine paste. Add water to get a thick and smooth paste.
  7. Thoroughly wash the fov/ beaten rice in a lot of water, then drain the rice completely.
  8. Add 2-3 tbsp chutney in the drained fov/ beaten rice. Mix well till the fov/ beaten rice is thoroughly coated with the chutney.
  9. Next add the patal ras, tamarind and jaggery mix to the beaten rice. Adjust the taste accordingly.
  10. Place the mixture in a container,refrigerate to chill.Add the “das ras milk” mix and serve.

I have tried this.. It's sweet sour pungent taste.... . Simply good.... 👌
