About Onion Tomato Chutney Recipe

Onion and Tomato together makes a great combo resulting in this spicy and tangy finger licking good chutney.

Onion Tomato Chutney

Ingredients to make Onion Tomato Chutney

  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 big tomatoes
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 2 - 3 Red Dry chillis
  • 2 tsp oil
  • salt as needed
  • tamarind (marble size)
  • a small piece ginger (optional)

How to make Onion Tomato Chutney

  1. Heat oil in a pan, and once hot add the garlic and red chillis. Fry for a few seconds and then add roughly chopped onion and saute until soft. Then add the tomatoes and saute everything together.
  2. Cook till tomatoes turn nice and soft. Turn off stove and cool it. Then grind it along with salt and tamarind. Adjust water when grinding as per desired consistency.

My Tip:

As all the ingredients are fried already, tempering (tadka) is not actually needed for this chutney. But if you want, you can do a simple tadka with oil, mustard, jeera , hing and curry leaves.
