ABOUT Gavhran chicken RECIPE

Gaon style chicken made using roasted coconut and onions.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. chicken 1/2 kg
  2. turmeric powder 1/2 tablespoon
  3. shredded coconut 3/4th cup
  4. onion 2 medium size
  5. garlic pods 7-8
  6. ginger piece 1/2 inch
  7. coriander stems
  8. bay leaf 1
  9. cloves 2-3
  10. black pepper 4
  11. cinnamon stick 1 inch
  12. kashmiri red chilli powder 1-2 tablespoon
  13. garam masala powder 1 tablespoon
  14. salt as per taste
  15. oil
  16. coriander chopped for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Roast shredded coconut on a pan till it gets brown in colour. Dry coconut can be used instead of fresh one.
  2. Take little oil on pan and roast one onion till it becomes light brown.
  3. Grind 2 garlic pods, ginger, coriander stems, roasted onion and coconut. Add water if required.
  4. Make a coarse paste.
  5. Clean and cut chicken into medium pieces. Apply turmeric powder and keep it for 10 minuets.
  6. In a pan take oil, add garam masalas in it.
  7. Crush remaining garlic pods.
  8. Add them in oil. Fry them till they start changing colour.
  9. Add 1 slices onion and fry well.
  10. Add chicken. Mix well. Cook till chicken is almost cooked.
  11. Add the above paste to it. Mix well.
  12. Add the powder masalas ( use according to your spice level) and salt. Mix well and cook for another 5-10 minutes. Add water while cooking if required. Once done switch off the gas and garnish with coriander. Have it with hot fulkas.
