ABOUT Homemade Tomato Ketchup from Scratch RECIPE

Making ketchup from scratch is surprisingly easy, if time consuming (although most of the time is largely hands-off), mostly for the part of making tomato paste. To make the tomato paste, cook about 3 kilos of tomatoes on a low flame until no fluids are present. Then run it through a sieve and mash it with the back of the spoon. Collect the smooth tomato puree, pour it into a pan with 1/2 cup olive oil and cook till the oil separates from the sides of the pan, this will take about 50 minutes.

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. Homemade Tomato paste- 100 gms
  2. Brown sugar- 1/4 cup
  3. Salt- 1 tbsp (please adjust as required)
  4. Paprika powder/Kashmiri red chili powder- 1 tbsp
  5. Black pepper powder- 1 tsp
  6. Cumin powder - 1 tsp
  7. Coriander powder - 1/4 tsp
  8. Yellow mustard powder - 1/2 tsp
  9. Clove powder- 1/4 tsp
  10. Cinnamon powder- 1/4 tsp
  11. Whie wine vinegar- 5 tbsp
  12. Water- 2/3 cup

Instructions

  1. Sterilize a glass bottle with air tight lid, wipe it using a clean cloth until dry and keep aside.
  2. In a large bowl add all the ingredients and whisk it continuously. Keep whisking until all the sugar gets dissolved and forms a thick ketchup. Please reduce water if you prefer to have a thicker consistency of ketchup!
  3. Pour the ketchup into a sterilized dry bottle, for longer storage cover it air tight and store it in the fridge for about 3-4 weeks. For longer storage you can freeze it as well.
