Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 2 large finely chopped onions
  2. 2 large tomatoes finely chopped
  3. 2 spoons jeera
  4. 2 large green chillies
  5. 4-5 spoons cashew
  6. 2 spoons chopped pepper
  7. 1 cup moong dal
  8. 1 cup soon I rava
  9. Half cup ghee
  10. Half cup oil
  11. Half pound brinjal
  12. 2 large potatoes
  13. 3-4 red chillies dried
  14. Bunch of coriander leaves
  15. 1 teaspoon tamarind

Instructions

  1. To make the gotsu first peel the potatoes and cut it into large pieces
  2. Cut the brinjal into large chunks , pressure cook potatoes and brinjal together for 3 to 4 whistles
  3. Take a pan and add oil, add mustard seeds and jeera
  4. When this splutters add chopped onions and tomatoes and fry well
  5. Now add chopped green chillies, salt and dried chillies cook this with water for a bit
  6. Mash the cooked brinjal and potatoes well and add to the gravy
  7. Cook this till done, add a teaspoon of tamarind
  8. Add a spoon of jeera powder
  9. Cook this till done and top with coriander leaves
  10. To make Rava pongal
  11. Take a pan and add ghee , fry the moong dal for a few minutes . Pressure cook moong dal for 3-4 whistles
  12. Take the pan and add few spoons of ghee and fry rava till done and set aside
  13. In the same pan add oil , add jeera and mustard seeds when it splutters add cashews, powdered pepper
  14. Add cooked moong dal with water and cook for 10 minutes
  15. Add the rava and cook till pongal is done
  16. Top with ghee and serve with brinjal gotsu
