Sultani Dal

Ingredients to make Sultani Dal

  • 1 cup Toor dal
  • 300 ml Milk
  • 2 tbsp Fresh cream
  • 2 tbsp curd
  • 3 tbsp ghee
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp cumin Seeds
  • 1 tsp ginger Chopped
  • 2 tsp garlic Chopped
  • 3 slit Green chilli
  • 1/2 cup Shallot onion Chopped
  • 1 tsp Red chilli Powder
  • Few curry leaves
  • salt to taste

How to make Sultani Dal

  1. Wash dal and add it in a pressure cooker along with salt, turmeric powder and 2 cups of water and cook for 3 whistles.
  2. Once the pressure releases, open the lid of the cooker and add milk in the dal.
  3. Add curd and cream and mix well. Cook the dal on low heat till it thickens a bit.
  4. Heat ghee in a pan. Once the ghee is hot, add cumin seeds, curry leaves, ginger, garlic and green chilies and fry for a few seconds.
  5. Add chopped shallot onions and fry till onions are slightly browned.
  6. Switch off the heat and add red chilli powder in the pan. Pour this tadka over the dal.
  7. Serve with rice or chapathi
