Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. 6-7 garlic flakes
  2. 2 dry red chillies (medium spicy)
  3. 1/2 cup sliced coconut
  4. 5-6 Curry Leaves
  5. 1 pinch asafoetida
  6. A tiny bit of tamarind
  7. 1 tsp oil
  8. salt to taste


  1. Heat the oil in a wok. Add the crushed garlic, asafoetida, curry leaves and broken red chilli. Fry till the garlic turns light brown in color.
  2. Add the coconut slices and fry for another minute. Remove from flame and allow it to cool down.
  3. Once it is cool, take the fried ingredients in a mixer jar (use the small chutney jar), add the salt and tamarind.
  4. Add a few teaspoons of water and grind into a smooth paste. (Add a little more water if it is too dry)
  5. Serve with idli/dosa or even with rice, rasam, papad and a little ghee.
