Sooji Dhokla

Ingredients to make Sooji Dhokla

  • Sooji (semolina) 1 cup
  • curd - 1 cup
  • water as required
  • salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • sugar - 1/2 teaspoon
  • oil - 1 teaspoon + 2 teaspoon
  • Finely chopped ginger - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Finely chopped green chillies - 1/2 teaspoon
  • curry leaves - few
  • mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Grated coconut - 2 teaspoon
  • Slit green chillies - 2
  • baking soda - 1/2 teaspoon

How to make Sooji Dhokla

  1. Mix Sooji, salt, sugar, a teaspoon of oil and curd. Add little water to make a thick paste.
  2. Add chopped ginger and chopped green chillies into it. Mix well and allow it to rest for 15 minutes.
  3. Now add the baking soda and mix well again for a minute till you see bubbles.
  4. Pour dhokla mixture in a greased container and steam it, covered for 15 minutes.
  5. Dhokla will rise in height.
  6. Now heat two teaspoon of oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds.
  7. Next add the slit green chillies, curry leaves, grated coconut and a pinch of salt.
  8. Saute for a few seconds and drizzle a teaspoon of water into it.
  9. Immediately pour this oil on top of the dhokla.
  10. Cut the dhokla into big sqaures inside the container itself.
  11. Allow dhokla to cool down completely.
  12. Serve dhokla with chutney of your choice.
