About Jaggery Vattayappam Recipe

Grandma's favorite Jaggery vattayappam is so tasty and healthy. It is very simple steamed sweetened rice cake, good for health.

Jaggery Vattayappam

Ingredients to make Jaggery Vattayappam

  • 4 hrs soaked rice 2 cup
  • Cooked rice 1 cup
  • Grated coconut 1 cup
  • salt to taste
  • jaggery powder 1 cup
  • cardamom powder 1 tsp
  • water 3-4 cup
  • coconut oil or ghee 1 tsp
  • Mixed dry fruits and nuts chopped 1/4 cup

How to make Jaggery Vattayappam

  1. COMBINE SOAKED RICE, COOKED RICE, SALT AND WATER
  2. ADD GRATED COCONUT AND GRIND
  3. GRIND TO A SMOOTH PASTE
  4. TRANSFER INTO A BOWL, COVER AND SET ASIDE FOR FERMENTATION OVERNIGHT
  5. CHECK THE FERMENTATION, ADD CARDAMOM POWDER
  6. MIX JAGGERY POWDER AND STIR CONTINUOUSLY UNTIL DISSOLVE
  7. ADD SOME WATER IN IDLI STEAMER AND HEAT IT
  8. GREASE THE STAINLESS STEEL BOWL WITH COCONUT OIL OR GHEE
  9. POUR THE BATTER, COVER, STEAM AND COOK FOR TEN MINUTES IN HIGH FLAME
  10. WHEN IT IS HALF DONE, OPEN THE LID, ADD CHOPPED DRY FRUITS AND NUTS, CONTINUE STEAMING IN LOW FLAME
  11. AFTER 10 MINUTES INSERT A SPOON, CHECK THE COOKNESS, IF IT'S NOT COMES OUT CLEAN, CONTINUE COOK
  12. TURN OFF THE FLAME AFTER WELL COOK, ALLOW IT TO COOL, REMOVE FROM THE STEAMER
  13. DEMOULD IT
  14. ARRANGE IN A PLATE AND CUT WEDGES IN DESIRED SHAPES, AND SERVE
