About Tomato rasam Recipe

Simple but tasty tomato curry in South Indian style.

Tomato rasam

Ingredients to make Tomato rasam

  • tomatoes 4 big
  • oil 1 tbsp
  • mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
  • cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
  • fenugreek seeds 1/4 tsp
  • asafoetida 1 pinch
  • curry leaves 1 sprig
  • Dry red chilli 1
  • salt to taste
  • tamarind pulp 1 tsp
  • sugar 1 tsp
  • turmeric 1/2 tsp
  • Rasam powder 1 tbsp
  • Fresh coriander leaves 1 tbsp
  • FOR RASAM POWDER:
  • chana dal 1 tbsp
  • coriander seeds 1 tbsp
  • Dry red chillies 2
  • Black pepper corns 1 tsp
  • cumin 1 tsp

How to make Tomato rasam

  1. First to prepare rasam powder dry roast all ingredients in a pan .
  2. Let this cool and then grind it to fine powder.
  3. Now take a pan.Add oil.
  4. Put mustard seeds,cumin seeds and fenugreek seeds when oil heats up.
  5. When it splutters add hing and curry leaves.Saute
  6. Now add finely chopped tomatoes.Add salt and turmeric.Mix and cover.
  7. Let it cook for 5 minutes till tomatoes become mushy.Then add 3 cups of water and sugar.Add rasam powder also.
  8. Let it simmer till 5 minutes.Add tamarind pulp also.Check taste,can adjust quantity of rasam powder, according to your taste.
  9. Add fresh coriander and serve hot with rice.
