Soya chap is primarily a Northindian side dish gaining lot of popularity in all age groups basically for its high protein content and low carbohydrates . This was my fathers favourite dish and he used to cook himself by making its different variations . Here i am presenting for you all one of his and my favourite variants of soya chap which has got stuffing of boiled and mashed potato masala dipped in luscious creamy onion tomato peanut gravy..i am sure you would enjoy reading my recipe , would surely try making it .Here i have not taken the soya chap sticks but the solid dense soft soya cylinders from the market in the raw form ..make this version also ...

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Soya Chap cylinders 4
  2. Potato preboiled 2 medium sized
  3. Tomato 4 medium sized
  4. onions 2 medium sized
  5. Ginger one inch long grated
  6. Garlic pods 4 grated
  7. Cumin whole 10g
  8. Coriander seeds whole 10 g
  9. Garam masala 1 teaspoon
  10. kasoori methi 1 teaspoon
  11. Coriander leaves 20 g
  12. salt as per taste
  13. Kashmiri mirch powder 1 teaspoon
  14. Peanuts peeled and dry roasted 20g
  15. Turmeric 1 teaspoon
  16. Curd 50ml
  17. Chaat masala 15 g

Instructions

  1. Wash soya chap cylinders in a preheated boiling water .. Pat dry .
  2. Now scoop out the soya chap material from the centre .
  3. Shallow fry them on medium flame till light golden brown.
  4. Keep it for marination with very little curd and chat masala..
  5. Fill the cylinders with boiled and mashed potato masala .
  6. Keep them aside .
  7. In a blender add onions , tomatoes , garlic , ginger and Pre -roasted peeled peanuts and blend them into a creamy texture.
  8. In a wok add vegetable oil and allow it to heat on a medium flame .
  9. Add cumin and coriander seeds and allow them to splutter .
  10. Add the onion tomato paste and saute them till the raw smell of onions and garlic disappears.
  11. Add turmeric powder . Add Kashmiri powder Add garam masala
  12. Stir all the spices throughly to get infused into the gravy making gravy aromatic and nutty flavoured owing to the presence of the peanuts .
  13. Add the required quantity of curd ..This will make the gravy more rich and delicious ..Stir it throughly..
  14. Adjust the consistency of the gravy by adding little water ..The gravy should be smooth textured and not the flowing one.
  15. Allow it to simmer for some time ..Now add salt and the stuffed soya chap .. Drizzle little gravy over it ...
  16. Sprinkle crushed kasoori methi on it ..
  17. Garnish with coriander leaves along with its minutely chopped sticks which are not only healthy but aromatic too .
  18. Serve with paranthas or naan ...
