ABOUT Flax Seeds Chutney Powder RECIPE

Flax seeds is good for health, thus this is an excellent and nutritious chutney powder.

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. Chana dal / Bengal gram / Kadale bele - 2 Cups (100 gms)
  2. Flax seeds / Alasi / Agase beja - 1 cup (50 gms)
  3. Urad dal / Black gram / Uddina bele - 1 cup (50 gms)
  4. Red Chillies /Byadagi chillies and Guntur - 6 Byadagi + 2 Guntur chillies (adjust to taste)
  5. Curry leaves / Kari Baavu soppu - 1/2 cup
  6. Grated Coconut / Dessicated / Kobri - 1/2 cup
  7. Tamarind Paste(2 tbspn) or soaked chunks / Huli - 1/4 cup
  8. Asafoetida / Hing / Ingu - 1/2 tsp
  9. Jaggery / Bella to taste - a small piece
  10. Salt to taste
  11. Oil - 2 tbsp
  12. Mustard seeds - 1/4 Tsp

Instructions

  1. Heat a wok/pan, roast the bengal gram and black gram till it is light and golden in color.
  2. Roast the flax seeds till it splutters and keep aside. In the same wok roast the chillies on a low flame and keep aside.
  3. Wash the curry leaves and dry fry for a few minutes and keep aside. Fry the coconut for 2 seconds on a low flame.
  4. Mix it all with salt (to taste), jaggery and hing. Make a nice powder with the help of a mixer/ blender and keep aside.
  5. Heat oil in a small pan, add the mustard seeds allow to splutter then add the tamarind paste or tamarind chunks soaked and pressure cooked. Cool it and add it into the heat oil in a small pan, add the mustard seeds and allow to splutter then add the tamarind paste.
  6. OR the tamarind chunks soaked and pressure cooked. Cool it and add it into the pan gently. Mix well in the oil and remove from the flame, cool it and mix powder to the oil by hand then blend once it is mixed properly.
  7. Transfer into a glass jar and store it for longer days.
