About Vada Pav Recipe

Vada pav is a very popular street food of Maharashtra. Batata vada is stuffed in pav buns with green coriander chutney and tamarind chutney.

Vada Pav

Ingredients to make Vada Pav

  • Boiled potatoes medium sized 2
  • oil 2 tesp + for frying
  • mustard seeds 1/2 tesp
  • curry leaves 1 sprig
  • asafoetida a pinch
  • ginger garlic paste 1 tesp
  • red chilli powder 1/2 tesp
  • turmeric powder 1/4 tesp
  • coriander powder 1/2 tesp
  • salt 1/2 tesp
  • Green coriander chutney 3-4 tbsp
  • tamarind chutney 3-4 tbsp
  • Pav buns 4
  • For batter
  • gram flour 1/2 cup
  • salt 1/3 tesp
  • red chilli powder 1/4 tesp
  • turmeric powder a pinch
  • asafoetida a pinch
  • water approx. 1/4 cup
  • Green coriander leaves 1 tbsp

How to make Vada Pav

  1. Splutter mustard seeds and curry leaves in oil.
  2. Add Asafoetida and ginger paste. Saute.
  3. Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and a tbsp of water.
  4. Cook spices and add mashed boiled potatoes with salt. Mix well.
  5. Stop heat. Mix coriander leaves.
  6. Mix all ingredients of batter and make a thick batter of pouring consistency. Adjust water as needed.
  7. Divide potato mixture in four balls.
  8. Dip each ball in batter nicely and deep fry in hot oil on medium heat.
  9. Remove the batata vadas on absorbent paper.
  10. Cut Pav buns in centre and let them joined at end.
  11. Apply tamarind chutney on one side and coriander chutney on other side.
  12. Place a batata vada in centre and serve.
