It is an interesting and very tasty breakfast recipe.It is one of the most famous recipe of the temple town Kancheepuram.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 3/4 cup raw rice
  2. 1/2 cup urad dal whole
  3. 1/2 tsp methi seeds
  4. 1 tsp black pepper
  5. 1 tsp jeera
  6. 1/2 tsp dry ginger powder
  7. 2 tsp ghee
  8. Cashew for garnishing
  9. 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  10. 1/2 tsp udad dal
  11. 1/2 tsp chana dal
  12. Curry leaves
  13. Asfoetida
  14. Banana leaf for steaming

Instructions

  1. Soak rice,urad dal and methi seeds for two hours and grind coarsely.
  2. Crush pepper and jeera.
  3. Add ghee in kadai,add pepper,jeera,asfoetida ,mustard seeds,dals ,curry leaves,ginger powder cashews. Fry and add idli batter .add salt.,keep aside for two hours.
  4. Take long steel glasses ,put banana leaf inside the glass ,shaping to look like glass.
  5. Put the batter and steam for 1 hour..
  6. The above batter gives two glasses of idli...
