About Stuffed Idli Recipe

Delicious as compared to regular Idli since it consists of potato stuffing. Preparation time excludes the batter fermentation.

Stuffed Idli

Ingredients to make Stuffed Idli

  • potato : 2 medium
  • onion : 1 large
  • curry leaves : 4-5
  • green chillies : 2-3
  • coriander Leaves (Cilantro) Optional : 2 tbsp
  • Idli Batter : 3 Cups or as needed on quantity
  • Eno : A pinch
  • mustard seeds ( Rai) : 1/2 tsp
  • turmeric Powder (Haldi) : 1/2 tsp
  • asafoetida (Hung) : A Pinch
  • salt : as per taste

How to make Stuffed Idli

  1. Heat Oil In Kadai. Add mustard seed. After they crackle add curry leaves, asafoetida and green chillies.
  2. Add mashed potato and saute. Then add turmeric and salt. Fry for 2 min till raw smell of turmeric vanishes. Turn off gas and add coriander leaves. Mix Well.
  3. Potato stuffing is now ready ! Make small round tikkis and keep aside.
  4. Grease Idli stand. Add pinch of soda to Batter mix gently. Pour a tablespoon of batter in the moulds.
  5. Place the potato tikki on the batter. Then again cover the tikki with a tablespoon of batter.
  6. Steam like regular idli for 12-15 minutes on medium low flame.
  7. While serving cut into Half. Serve Hot with chutney.

My Tip:

Eno should always be added just before you pour batter in the moulds. And always mix gently after adding Eno.
