ABOUT Stuffed Dal Dhokli RECIPE

Stuffed Dal Dhokli is a very delicious one dish meal and is an all time favorite Sunday lunch at home. It tastes heavenly when eaten piping hot. Stuffed Dal Dhokli is a combination of wheat flour spiced with masala, arhar (toor dal ) dal, potatoes which is cooked flavored with spices.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For Dal:
  2. 1/2 cup - Toor Dal ( Arhar Dal)
  3. 1 tomato - finely chopped
  4. 2 tsp green chilli-ginger paste
  5. A handful of peanuts
  6. 1 cup cluster beans - cut into small pieces
  7. 1 tsp amchur powder (dry mango powder )
  8. 1 tsp red chilli powder
  9. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  10. 1 tsp coriander powder (dhaniya powder)
  11. Salt to taste
  12. For Dhokli :
  13. 2 cups wheat flour
  14. 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
  15. 2 tsp red chilli powder
  16. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  17. 2 tsp sesame seeds
  18. 2 tsp oil
  19. Salt to taste
  20. Water for kneading the dough
  21. For stuffing :
  22. 3 Potatoes - medium sized, washed, boiled and peeled
  23. 1/2 cup green peas - peeled, washed, boiled
  24. 2 tsp green chili-ginger paste
  25. 1 tsp. lemon juice
  26. 1/4 cup chopped fresh coriander
  27. Salt to taste
  28. For Seasoning :
  29. 2 tsp oil
  30. 1 whole red chilli- cut into 2
  31. 1 tsp mustard seeds
  32. 2 cloves
  33. 1" cinnamon stick
  34. 5-6 curry leaves
  35. A pinch of asafoetida

Instructions

  1. Wash the toor dal and soak it in 2 cups of water for 30 mins. Then pressure cook it till 2 whistles blow.
  2. Once cooled, blend it with a hand blender and add the chopped tomato,salt and all the ingredients listed under dal, except the coriander leaves and lemon juice. Add 2 cups of water and keep aside.
  3. To prepare the stuffing, mash the boiled potatoes and add all the ingredients listed under the stuffing. Mix it well and keep aside.
  4. Take the wheat flour in a bowl, add all the masala listed under the dhokli and prepare a semi soft dough adding water.
  5. Make small balls and roll 3"pooris. Put 1 tsp of potato stuffing in the center, cover and close the stuffing from all sides by gathering the poori ( making it like a kachori ). Keep it aside. Repeat this process with the remaining dough.
  6. Heat the prepared dal . Allow it to cook till the cluster beans get cooked, add the stuffed dhoklis into the boiling dal one by one. Cover the pan and allow it to cook. Stir it with the spatula once in a while.
  7. When the dhoklis float on the surface, it is ready. Remove from the heat
  8. To make the tempering, heat oil in pan, add red chilli, mustard and allow it to splutter, then add cloves, cinnamon and cook for a while. Next add asafoetida, curry leaves and pour it over the prepared dhokli.
  9. Finally squeeze lemon juice on top and garnish it with coriander leaves. Your stuffed Dhokli is ready to be served.
