Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Minced Mutton – 500 gms.
  2. Egg – 1 no.
  3. Salt – as required.
  4. Fennel seeds – 1 tsp.
  5. Green chillies – 3 nos
  6. Curry leaves – a sprig.
  7. Coriander leaves - a handful.
  8. Garlic – 4 pods.
  9. Ginger – 1” piece – 1 no.
  10. Coconut – 1/8 cup.
  11. Pearl onions – 20 nos.
  12. Roasted channa dal – 2 tsp.
  13. Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp.
  14. Cinnamon 1” piece – 2 nos.
  15. Poppy seeds – 1/2 tsp.
  16. Cloves – 3 nos.
  17. Oil – for deep frying.

Instructions

  1. Wash and clean mutton well with running water , squeeze out excess water completely.Chop onions , coriander leaves , curry leaves to very fine pieces.
  2. In a pan dry roast cinnamon , cloves , poppy seeds , fennel seeds till golden brown ,remove from flame and let it cool down to room temperature.
  3. Grind above roasted ingredients along with coconut , channa dal , green chillies , ginger , garlic to fine paste without adding water.
  4. In a bowl add minced mutton ,egg , salt , chopped onions , curry leaves ,coriander leaves ,turmeric powder and mix well.
  5. Make small balls out of the mixture ( as in picture).
  6. Heat oil in a wide kadai and drop each balls gently , fry in medium heat till golden brown.
  7. Remove from flame and serve hot.
  8. Also instead of deep frying , I shallow fry in panniyaram pan.Spread few drops of coconut oil in paniyaram pan , place each ball in each hole and fry in low flame.
